The 15 Little Things That Make Me Happy

Today´s post is a pretty self explanatory one. I´m gonna talk about the 15 little things in life that make me happy. Why you ask? Well, I think we take a lot of things in life for granted and sometimes a little reminder makes us appreciate what we have in life and I know there are a lot of things each and every one of us could be thankful for in this moment. If you´re in a bad place right now and/or are struggling with exams I hope this post will make you realize there is so much to life that you should be happy about. Me and my friends have all been stuck in a root lately and I had to remind myself (and them) that there is more to life than what we are dealing with and we should really be thankful for all the little blessings we take for granted way to often.

1. A warm cup of coffee on a cold morning
I know some of you might prefer tea, but coffee is what gets me going. It is the thing that gets me out of bed and there is something magical about drinking my cup of coffee while getting ready to take on the day. I love coffee in general (as I am writing this I am in a caffe with my friend and we are both on our computers, while we´re enjoying each other´s company – and I have to admit I am pretty damn thankful for it). There is something about the smell of coffee that always brightens up my day and I couldn´t imagine not having at least one cup a day.

2. Wearing my favorite red lipstick
I know that my male audience won´t really get this one, but there is just something about my YSL red lipstick that always gives me a boost of confidence and I can´t tell you how many times this lipstick saved me when I felt like s*it. It is from a luxurious brand, so applying it makes me feel like there is something special about the day. I feel so powerful with red lips and somehow a little paint on my lips gives me the confidence to do the things I would usually be too scared to do (maybe that is why I usually pair it up with my more daring outfit looks). I know you might have a favorite MAC shade that gets you going, but for me, there is not a MAC in the world that would make me feel as good as my YSL one.

3. My dog
I´m an animal lover so this one is a must on my list. You probably know by now that I am a vegan and the main reason for my choice are animals. I believe that when it comes to animals they deserve the same love and kindness as people do (when meeting certain people it even makes me think they deserve more). Whenever I am feeling blue, my dog´s there to cheer me up. It´s like he senses my pain (and yes, I do believe they can do that too) and he wants to do everything in his power to make me feel better again.

4. Blogging
I can´t tell you how happy being able to blog makes me. I already told you I´m in a caffe at this moment, writing this post and I have to tell you this feels like meditation to me. It is the kind of high that makes me happy to be alive. I love shearing my thoughts and I try to take each minute of my free time to think of ideas and different projects I could do. It allows my creative flow to break through and I believe the passion I have for blogging can really be seen in my posts. I love interacting with you guys and blogging allows me that. It combines everything I love – writing, photography, beauty, fashion etc.

5. Youtube

Now here is something I think everyone of us can say. There is not a day in my life that I don´t check out new content from my favorite Youtubers, and there was not a mood in my life for which I did not find the perfect song on Youtube. I have recently started vlogging and I already love it. Vlogging makes me plan my days ahead and it, in a way, forces me to do more. To see more, to be more active and to think about my life more. I think everyone should try documenting their days at some point (if you are anything like me and can´t stick to a traditional diary method, then vlogging is the thing for you) since it makes you more aware of your life. I love editing and learning new tricks and hacks to improve my content and I wish to have more time to do everything I have planned (for now, however, I am doing the best I can with the time I do have).

6. Family
We all have problems with our families and, unfortunately, a lot of people try to hide that and sooner or later they end up living a pretense. No family is perfect, however we shouldn´t forget about the love and the good times when facing the difficult times. I can´t imagine my life without my family. I know they want what´s best for me and I know they are the reason why I am where I am right now. Without their support I would give up on life a million times and although it pains me to say it, I know that even the times my parents forbade me something it was for the best. I love my family and I am so thankful for them. They give me freedom and support my decisions (although they might not always understand them). I am thankful for the time they take out of their lives for me and I can always feel the warmth their love gives me – although sometimes I might me a bit stubborn and don´t really want to see it (don´t pretend like you don´t do that – there´s a little rebel in all of us).

7. Friends

If you know me personally, you know there are only a couple of people I count as my friends. I do not believe in having a lot of friends and I can count mine on the fingers of one hand. The bonds I do have with my friends are the kind you build for life. There are times we hate each other and there are times when we don´t speak for months – however the bonds we have always make us come back and realize how strong the love we have is. Even on my worst days my best friend is there and I know I can always count on him to have my back. I am thankful for my friends since they are the ones who support me with everything I do and always want to see me grow. They are there to celebrate my victories and they are there to comfort me when I need that. I try to make time for the people that matter in my life since at the end of the day what matters is the memory you leave behind and I hope each and every one of my friends remembers how much I appreciated them and how deeply I loved them.

8. Food

We takes this one for granted waaay too often. If you know me in real life you know I am a big foodie (well, you can probably tell that from the outfit posts I´ve recently posted since it has started to show a bit – but please, don´t try to tell me you haven´t noticed since I am aware you can, and I don´t mind it one bit!). I love the way that food connects people (btw, do you know there are groups on Facebook for Vegans where we share our recipes and talk about all the new products on the market!?) and there is nothing better than the smell of freshly baked cookies in December. I love decorating my food and I love learning about how it affects our bodies. I want to know where the food on my plate came from (one of the reasons for being a vegan btw) and I love trying out new tastes and textures.

9. A fresh, clean skin

Don´t get me wrong. I love makeup…seriously…I LOVE it. However, the feeling of cleaning your face after a long day is what I live for. It is like wiping away the troubles of the day. For years I was the girl who hid under pounds of makeup, however with years I have learned to embrace my skin and enjoy it. I love the feeling you get after a hot shower. The feeling of getting out of the shower and turning on your favorite show is something I live for. It is like there are no troubles in the world and I love how it seems as if there is not a problem in the world that a hot bath could not solve.

10. Makeup

I know my fellow makeup junkies will get me. Applying my makeup is what I call meditation. It is a time for me, a time when not a care in the world could bother me. While applying my makeup I feel at peace. There is not a thought on my mind and I love how it can completely change my mood and get me ready to take on the world (and the feeling of success when I finally get that eyeliner ˝on fleek˝ is really something else!). I love trying out new textures and with each new release I get so excited and I can already see all the looks I will create. I love how makeup gives you power and how creative you can be with it.

11. A spring morning
There is something about waking up and hearing the sound of birds that makes each morning magical. The fresh, cold morning air makes me excited for the day and with each spring morning I like to open up the window in my room and just cuddle up in my blankets while taking in the beauty of the sunrise (yes, I am one of those crazy people that likes to wake up before the sun rises, to enjoy the beauty).

12. Lying on the beach and looking at the stars
Don´t tell me I´m the only one who appreciates this. I love going to the sea and one of the best things about it are the warm nights and how magical the summer sky is. I love being around my friends while just looking up at the stars. It makes me feel one with the nature and I get so inspired by it. Whenever I need a break from the world I like to turn to nature for that – and there is no better time to do that than summer. The sound of waves hitting the shore and the warmth of the sand on my skin is what gives me peace. Going to the seaside is a must for me, since there is something therapeutic about it. It is when I look at the waves and watch the sea calm down in the evenings, that I find peace. It is like the chaos in my head finally stops and I can just enjoy the beauty nature has to offer.

13. Seeing a smile on my parents´ faces

I love making my parents happy and the feeling I get after seeing them smile is beautiful. I love being the reason their day gets just a little bit brighter and there is nothing more beautiful than seeing them genuinely happy. I will never forget the tears of happiness on my mother´s eyes after reading the words my father put on a valentine´s card. I love seeing them laugh and how even after so many years they can act like teenagers just to make each other smile. I love how my mother lights up when she tries a new makeup trick and proudly shows it off. I love the way my dad tries to speak in English and then asks me for advice on how to pronounce something. I love how their eyes light up when they speak about something with passion, even if I couldn´t care less about what they are talking about. I love how happy my dad is when we ask him for advice or how my mom always smiles when I suggest we try out a new recipe together.

14. Passing an extremely difficult exam

The feeling of finally understanding something you never did is awesome. I major in Philosophy so you can imagine I´m an expert on not getting something at first, however the feeling of finally understanding something is priceless. Seeing your hard work pay off when you pass an exam is awesome. It is like a reward for all of your sleepless nights. I love being able to discuss different topics with my schoolmates and I overall enjoy intelligent conversations. As a student of English Literature and Philosophy there are many occasions when I am able to talk about my thoughts and sometimes it even helps me pass an exam :).

15. Driving
I don´t think you know this about me, but I love driving. I love listening to music and just allowing the road to be my leader. I love getting lost and I love going on little road trips with my friends. Listening to music and driving is one of the best things in the world if you ask me and although some hate it, I love the 2 and a half hour drives to/from Maribor. I love sharing amazing stories in the car and (if I quote a friend of mine) each drive with me is an adventure. I hate the people who only see driving as coming from point A to point B. I love observing everything around me and I love the control that driving gives me. I am a big travel junkie (one, that has unfortunately seen only a little bit of the outside world) so maybe that is why I love driving. It gives me the chance to visit new places and see the change in nature. Being one with the road is an awesome feeling and I even have planned going on more road trips and stopping in random villages for coffee, with my best friend. He still hasn´t gotten his driver´s license, since he doesn´t really feel like having it, which gives me the opportunity to be behind the wheel even more often.

There are plenty more things that make my heart happy, however this time I chose to focus on the first 15 that popped into my mind. I would love it if you shared some of the things that make you happy. We should always remember there are so many things we should be thankful for and we should stop taking things for granted. There is something I have been trying to do recently and I believe everyone should do it. Each morning I try to think of at least 5 things for which I am grateful and it really puts me in a great mood and helps me stay positive. Each day can bring something beautiful, we just need to open our eyes (and hearts) wide enough to notice it. There is something worth living for in each day and no matter how bad you think you have it, please, remember the little things.
