I´m not sure I ever shared this with you guys, but I am a 100% morning person. I love catching the sun rise and I love the smell of new opportunities in the morning. I believe I get the most done in the morning, since I always try and wake up in a good mood and refreshed. Now, some might say you cannot chose in what mood you´ll wake up or how energized you´ll be, I beg to differ.
If you ask me, great mornings don´t just happen and you don´t start loving mornings over night so today I wanted to share with you some of my tips on what I do, or at least try to do, to make my ZZZ´s a bit better.
1. Drink a glass of water
If you know me, you know I was a former coffee lover, so I would sometimes drink it even an hour or two before bed time – bad idea! The only beverage you should be having before bed is water. Your body gets dehydrated during the night, so make sure you give it all the hydration it needs during the day.
2. Run a hot bath
For the first time in my life, I finally have a bath in my place. And although I sometimes still prefer and miss showers, I have to say, there is nothing like a relaxing, long, hot bath before bedtime. Add in some Epsom salt to help your body detox (my personal favorite is this one from Vila Vita) and after about 15min surround yourself with bubbles (I love this bubble bath from Dvorec Trebnik, since the lavander scent is proven to relax you and give you an all around great experience) and I can guarantee you are going to get some quality sleep, when bed time comes.
3. Light up a candle and give yourself a little relaxing massage
It has been proven that candle light relaxes us and combining it with a warm touch is sure to get us out of our bad moods and into our PJ´s. Of course, if you have a partner, ask him or her to provide some pampering and return the favor next time, but if you don´t, a good leg and neck massage you can give yourself will do wonders, at the end of the day, you´re the one who knows your body best. Although I love sweet and warm scents at the moment I am head over heels for this spearmint scented massage candle from Aroma Herbal, since it is a great 2 in 1, not to mention, how pretty it looks in my new place.
4. Turn off all your electronic devices
Now, before you go and press that X button, hear me out. This one was and still is the hardest one for me. Nothing relaxes me more than double tapping my screen before I fall asleep, however it has been proven looking at your screen an hour or two before bed time can seriously decrease the quality of your sleep. Now, if you ask me, baby steps is the way to go. I still can´t go the whole 2 hours, but I have been a good girl and tried reaching for a book instead of my phone at night. Same effect, different result – just make sure you pick a book you´re not TOO fond of, or you´ll stay up for hours tryin´ to take it all in (been there, done that).
5. Breathe in, breathe out
I have been tryin´ to get into meditation a bit more seriously recently and I love to take a couple of moments before I fall asleep to reflect upon my day and just breathe. The one product that helped make this experience even more relaxing is my Le Couvent Des Minimes pillow mist.
